December 2018 – Tourism Vancouver has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) as a municipal destination member.
Tourism Vancouver is a destination marketing organization and business association representing approximately 1,000 members in tourism and related industries/activities.
“We are very pleased to welcome the Tourism Vancouver to GSTC,” says Randy Durband, GSTC CEO. “We appreciate the destination efforts to ‘be green’ in general, and we applaud their approach to include their visitor economy in their overall approach to becoming a sustainable destination. We look forward to supporting them in this journey.”
“We are delighted to become members of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council,” says Ty Speer, Tourism Vancouver CEO. “Supporting the development of global sustainable standards for tourism reflects our belief that championing stewardship of a thriving and sustainable tourism industry is vital to the positive impact our industry will have on a destination’s economy, environment and quality of life for both locals and visitors.”
GSTC encourages destinations pursuing sustainability practices in development and management of tourism, to join as GSTC members and apply the GSTC Destination Criteria, which eventually can lead to being certified by a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body.
