In pursuit of sustainable practices in tourism, staff and alumni from Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic’s School of Hospitality participated in the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course, held from the 14th to the 16th of June, 2023.
GSTC Trainer Mochamad Nalendra imparted insights during the course, sharing how the tourism sector can successfully incorporate sustainability best practices into its operations. The course was a great opportunity for the academic team and students to expand their knowledge of the global standards for sustainable tourism and travel. Both the GSTC Industry Criteria and the GSTC Destination Criteria were discussed in-depth during the course, enhancing the understanding of participants through a wide variety of case studies from around the world.
Participants were also given a unique opportunity to learn directly from guest speakers, Matteo Bierschneider of Wise Steps Travel and Jennifer Klar of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. These industry experts shared how they champion sustainable practices within their respective organizations, providing a valuable real-world perspective.
In a move that underscores its commitment to Sustainable Tourism, Republic Polytechnic has announced plans to integrate the GSTC Criteria into its diploma module contents. This is a significant step towards equipping future tourism professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to contribute to the sustainable evolution of the tourism industry.
