Complimentary post-conference tour

After the conference, participants will be able to enjoy a complimentary guided tour on April 26th.

There will be three options from which the delegates may choose:

1. Archipelago Tour to Utö Island  [limited availability]

Dress for the weather and remember that we will be hiking, biking and also doing some physical work in the wetland.

Just a few minutes away from the city of Stockholm, the archipelago begins. With nearly 30,000 islands, islets and rocks, from Öregrund in the north to Landsort in the south it covers an area of more than 650 square miles – each with its own character. In the Archipelago there are many beautiful places to explore and discover and one of them is the island Utö. The foundation Initiative Utö works actively to clean the Baltic Sea by constructing wetlands on Utö and Ålö. The vision is to reverse the negative environmental impact by restoring marine environments and creating circular systems to improve conditions for animals and humans and establish new measures that benefit the environment and exercise.

2. Stockholm City Walking Tour

(From 10am to 2:30pm, includes lunch)

Stockholm is a compact city, which makes it perfectly suited to being explored on foot. Explore the sustainable side of Stockholm, and get to know why Stockholm was awarded the first ever European Green Capital.

The tour will start with a visit to Stockholm Royal Seaport. A brownfield site that has been transformed into a green and bustling city hub, rewarded for its innovative, long-term sustainability solutions. During the walking tour we will learn about both exciting architecture, examples of climate adaption and other sustainable solutions for the future.

After that the bus will take us to Södermalm, a part of the city that has developed into one of Stockholm’s hotspots where the atmosphere is relaxed, creative and trendy. We will stroll around in the neighborhood, having lunch and you will have the opportunity to visit some of the shops offering sustainable fashion, design and art.

3. Sustainable Island Walking Tour | Royal Djurgården

(Meeting point at 10am: Skansen entrance. The tour ends at 3pm.)

Embark on an engaging Sustainable Island Walking Tour, a complimentary post-conference experience set against the backdrop of Royal Djurgården. Explore the sustainability initiatives that define Djurgården’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

This guided walking tour, starting at 10 am and concluding at 3 pm, offers a day of insightful exploration into sustainability and the various facets of Djurgården. The tour focuses on the harmonious relationship between nature, culture, and innovative solutions within this renowned destination.

Starting at the main entrance of Skansen, participants will receive an introduction to how 60 attractions collaborate for sustainability within Djurgården. Journey through the Baltic Sea Science Center to understand the challenges facing the Baltic Sea and the center’s efforts to address environmental issues. Explore Skansen, the world’s first open-air museum, to delve into Swedish cultural heritage. Stroll through Rosendals Garden, a biodiverse haven, and enjoy a sustainable lunch while learning about circular projects using stone from the metro expansion.

Take a leisurely walk and engage in conversations with the Head of the Royal Djurgården Administration to uncover the history and values of the world’s first National City Park. Meet the minds behind Skroten, Sweden’s first boat scrapyard, and learn about their environmentally responsible boat scrapping practices. The tour concludes with a visit to Gröna Lund, Stockholm’s beloved amusement park, where you’ll discover their sustainability initiatives, including efforts towards social sustainability.

Join us for a walking tour into the heart of sustainability at Djurgården— promising a day of exploration, inspiration, and environmental awareness. The Sustainable Island Walking Tour is a celebration of sustainable practices and the collective efforts contributing to positive change.

4. Shinrin-yoku or Forest Bathing in a Swedish Forest

When did you really listen to a bird, found comfort with a tree or felt the soft moss against your face? Relax and rejuvenate in the green forest of Djurgården with the Japanese art of Shinrin-Yoku! Enjoy a slow walk in the wild and be guided using your senses in contact with nature. The walk will end with a celebratory tea-ceremony in the forest with tea brewed from local herbs. Shinrin-Yoku translates as to take in the atmosphere of the forest and is a Japanese inspired wellness practice that has been proven to lower blood pressure, reduce stress, boost the immune system and improve a sense of wellbeing and creativity.

Your guide, Helena Johard is a Certified Forest Bathing Guide (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy), a researcher in biology and a performance artist.

5. Experience Stockholm from the seaside 

(From 10am a 11:30am) 

Come and join this guided tour onboard the historical vessel SYLVIA. Captain Elias Nilsson together with guide Elisabeth Daude will show you Stockholm from the seaside and share their love for the city. The vessel Sylvia was originally built in England 1943, ordered by the Royal Navy and partook in the landings of Normandy 1944. Today 80 years later she still sails with pride, now with zero emission. Electrical converted with 2nd life Tesla batteries.

Tip for the participants that are planning to arrive early:

On the 20th of April there is a free festival of culture in Stockholm called Stockholm Culture Night. Where most of Stockholm’s cultural scene opens its doors to the public for one magical night – no admission. It goes on from 6 pm to 12 am and even a little longer on Skeppsholmen (a neighboring island to Royal Djurgården) where venues are open till 2 am.
