The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and its members are very saddened by the loss of Melissa Tilling, GSTC Member, Founder and Chief Executive of Charitable Travel and Sustainable Journeys, and CEO of the Charitable Travel Fund.

Melissa was a prominent figure in the travel industry with over 30 years of experience and a passionate advocate for sustainable tourism, Founder and CEO of Charitable Travel and Sustainable Journeys, organizations dedicated to promoting ethical and environmentally responsible travel. 

The GSTC is saddened by the loss of Melissa Tilling

GSTC shared fond memories with Melissa at the latest Global Sustainable Tourism Conferences in Antalya (2023) and Sweden (2024).

Melissa Tilling was a beacon of inspiration for all who knew her, and her legacy will forever endure. We want to remember her words: “Change demands courage, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to the underlying principles of ‘good’ across the environmental, social, and economic pillars upon which our future depends. The journey towards a more responsible and mindful travel industry is fraught with challenges. It is not merely about preserving the beauty and diversity of our planet for future generations; it is about redefining our very ethos as travellers and as inhabitants of this earth.” 

Melissa will be remembered as a warm and visionary leader in the world of tourism. The GSTC and its members extend their heartfelt condolences to the Tilling family and express profound gratitude for Melissa’s significant contributions to the tourism industry. Her tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark. Rest in peace, Melissa.
