On November 15-17, 2018, the « International Summit: Cultural Sustainable Destinations without Borders » was organized by the GSTC Member Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) and Historical Villages of Portugal.
The summit aimed at discussing, reflecting on and raising awareness of a common policy directed to alternative destinations. « The absence of a concrete definition for an alternative destination leads to the difficulty of creating a common understanding. In this context, and in order to mark out the framework of the discussion, it is, therefore, necessary to outline and define the term « Alternative Tourism » as focus on the panels that set the summit. »
GSTC Chair, Mr. Luigi Cabrini, participated in the inaugural session, along with President of the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, Mr. Armindo Jacinto; President of the Board of Directors of the Aldeias Históricas de Portugal, Mr. António Robalo; Director of the Development & Innovation Department, Turismo de Portugal, Ms.Teresa Ferreira; and Chairman of the Responsible Tourism Institute, Mr Tomás Azcárate.
Mr. Cabrin also moderated the session « Best Practices of the Application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to Global Tourism and the Sustainability » where GSTC Member Ms. Lonneke de Kort, CEO of Bookdifferent.com spoke as well.
