Península Papagayo has joined as a Member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)

Sustainability in Península Papagayo
The resort’s commitment to sustainability started over twenty years ago with the creation of a pioneering community outreach program called Creciendo Juntos, dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare and education in the nineteen communities surrounding Peninsula Papagayo.
The resort is committed to reducing its main environmental impacts by measuring its carbon footprint and water footprint and allocating resources to implement ambitious reduction plans.

In a partnership with FONAFIFO and ClimateTrade, Peninsula Papagayo offers its guests and residents the opportunity to offset CO2 emissions from travel in ways that can positively impact local families. FONAFIFO carbon credits do that by increasing forest cover in Costa Rica, protecting and restoring nature, and preserving a sense of place for future generations.
- The resort also promotes sustainable practices related to water conservation, waste reduction and biodiversity restoration: 100% of the water used is treated, processed, and reused in the irrigation of green areas.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC®) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, known as the GSTC Criteria. There are two sets: Destination Criteria for public policy-makers and destination managers, and Industry Criteria for hotels and tour operators.
